Laiken Marie was born June 4th at 11:38 AM. She was 8 lbs 2 oz & 20 inches long. She had a head full of hair and our hearts have grown to welcome this precious little girl into our family. So far she has the sweetest temperment...until she doesn't... ;) But truly. She's the best baby! And the perfect addition to our family. Big brother loves smothering her in slobbery kisses. Calling her "sister" & patting her on the head!
As for her birth story...I feel like it was pretty simple! I still can't believe she came ON HER DUE DATE! I was sure she was gonna be late again and we were going to induce...but so thankful she came when she was ready!
We'll start with Friday morning - June 3rd. I had my last OB appointment. I was frustrated because my Dr. wasn't available, I had to see a new Dr. and it was a male Dr. - which I wasn't excited about. I needed to talk to them about the possibility of inducing because of Aric's wedding schedule the following weekend. We just couldn't risk her coming in the middle of all that craziness and Aric missing her birth! When they sent me to the bathroom to pee in the cup I almost lost it because I wasn't even seeing my usual nurse! But I said a quick prayer and somehow held it together and I should have known there was no need to worry - the Lord always provides. Fast forward to meeting Dr. Dhari. He immediately made me feel comfortable. He listened to my concerns, scheduled an induction, stripped the membranes and said - I think she'll be here before Tuesday! Of course I still had that frustration in the back of my head so I left thinking yeah right...that's what they told me last time and look what happened.
Fast forward again to Friday evening - I had been having "contractions" all day - but nothing crazy so I assumed they were just like the Braxton Hicks I had been having which weren't doing anything to progress labor. I went to bed and honestly I can't even remember what kind of mood I was in. Probably not a good one... HAHA! I wasn't in a very good mood for the last month! So tired and uncomfortable and couldn't sleep and just ready for her to be here already! (And also not ready for her to be here at all!)
I woke up around 2 AM to some contractions that were pretty uncomfortable. I sat awake in bed for a little while wondering about them and then decided I should just try to go back to sleep! Well...needless to say I couldn't! I started trying to see how far apart they were and they were just getting progressively more uncomfortable so I reluctantly woke Aric up. We had been to L&D a few too many times with false alarms so I couldn't decide if we should go or not and finally after a few minutes of should we? or should we not? We decided to go! We packed up Kai and dropped him off with our friends The Tuckers...And headed to the hospital.
I still didn't know if this was really it or just a false alarm so as we waited in the L&D room as we heard several other women come in and get moved to a room to have their baby I had almost decided no, I probably was still at a "2" cm! But low and behold when the Dr. finally came in to check me I was at a 6!! What?! So they said they would move me to a room and we'd be having a baby today!
I couldn't believe it! She was coming! And on her due date at that!
So we got to the room, ordered up the epidural and waited! The rest is kind of fuzzy to me - it took some time so when I was at about an 8 they gave me some pitocin to finish up the dilation because she was so low- she was ready! But I guess my body wasn't! Welllll...let's just say that pitocin works! And it wasn't but a few minutes later I was in some pretty bad pain from the pressure and knew it was time to push!
Dr. Dhari ended up delivering her - and I couldn't be more happy with that. He was a great Dr. and even came back by to visit, check on us and hold her before he left!
I'm sure I missed something here - but I wanted to write it out before I REALLY forgot how it all happened!
And here are some photos from her birth! She literally came so fast that Debs missed it! By about a minute! But I'm still so thankful for these photos of her first moments! And her meeting her big brother for the first time!
